Sudbury preservation commissions approve stewardship outreach letter, plan Hosmer oversight meeting

SUDBURY — May 14, 2025 — Sudbury historical panels launch stewardship outreach and push for Hosmer House oversight. At their May 14 annual joint meeting, the Historic Districts Commission and Historical Commission unanimously approved a letter inviting the Sudbury Valley Trustees, Conservation Commission, Wayside Inn, Sudbury Historical Society, Goodnow Library, Planning Board, Park and Recreation, Rail Trail Advisory Committee and town historian into a stewardship communications network, with the HDC voting 3-0 and the Historical Commission 7-0. Both panels celebrated Town Meeting's roughly $1 million in CPA approvals for the Hosmer House roof and envelope but raised concerns about preservation oversight, with HDC Chair Taryn Trexler warning that a contractor without preservation depth "wouldn't have come up with that original design," citing Loring Parsonage. Members will meet with Combined Facilities Director Sandra Duran on contractor credentials. Historical Commission Chair Bill Kneeland named the Henry Ford Carding Mill his top future CPA priority; member Jan Hardenbergh said Town Hall is back on the CPC's radar.
