Superintendent finalist Stevens faces Lincoln-Sudbury residents in public forum

SUDBURY — March 28, 2023 — Lexington High principal Andrew Stevens pitches Lincoln-Sudbury residents on equity, special education and student mental health. Stevens, a finalist for the combined superintendent-principal post and a 17-year high school principal, told a public forum he oversees roughly 2,300 students and 350 staff in Lexington and would approach Lincoln-Sudbury's budget with "kids at the middle." Pressed by resident Maura Cardi on diversity, he cited new African American history, Asian American history and African American literature courses launched after students of color said "we don't see ourselves in this school." On special education, Stevens told resident Ravi Simon that "kids who are from this community should be educated in this community" when possible, pointing to in-district programs he helped create in Duxbury and three autism-spectrum tracks in Lexington. He called de-stigmatizing student help-seeking the most important mental-health step schools can take.
