Lexington principal Andrew Stephens fields hour of questions as LS superintendent finalist

SUDBURY — March 28, 2023 — Lexington High principal Andrew Stephens pitched Lincoln-Sudbury on his 17 years as a high school principal in an hour-long finalist forum. Stephens, currently overseeing 2,300 students and 350 staff at Lexington High with a leadership team of 23 to 25 administrators, said the town-side budget process would be a learning curve but framed his priorities as "kids at the middle." He described creating African American history, Asian American history and African American literature courses at Lexington after students of color said "we don't see ourselves in this school," and listed six in-district special education programs currently running there, including three autism-spectrum programs. Pressed by Sudbury resident Sylvia Nersessian on operationalizing the Portrait of a Graduate, Stephens said content should be "the avenue to the skill" and pointed to a prior district that mapped 21st-century skills across departments through Aspen. No vote was taken; the forum was a public interview.
