Sudbury Select Board sets March 28 firearms zoning bylaw forum

SUDBURY — February 27, 2024 — Sudbury Select Board sets March 28 firearms bylaw forum amid sharp split over dissent. The board voted 5-0 to hold a public information forum on its proposed firearms safety business use zoning bylaw at the Goodnow Library, with March 20 at the police station as a backup, and agreed to move the article from position 33 to position 16 on the May town meeting warrant. Members Lisa V. Kouchakdjian and Chair Janie W. Dretler said they intend to argue against the article at the forum; Charles G. Russo and Jen Roberts said the event presents the board majority's article, with Roberts citing the Select Board code of conduct. The board also reallocated $50,000 of $766,500 in returned ARPA funds to Fire Chief John Whalen for upgrades at the original Fire Station 2, approved a $107,730 Hosmer House stabilization contract, and authorized Superintendent Brad Crozier to file MSBA Statements of Interest for the Nixon and Haynes school roofs. Goodnow Library Trustees Chair Katina Fontes told the board her trustees' EV-charger warrant article had been removed without board review; Town Manager Andy Sheehan said the roughly $80,000 project will be funded through the solar revolving fund instead.
