Sudbury Select Board rejects after-school care working group on 3-2 vote

SUDBURY — July 30, 2024 — Sudbury Select Board splits 3-2 against an after-school care working group as ARPA deadline tightens. The board on July 30 rejected member Lisa Kouchakdjian's motion directing Town Manager Andy Sheehan to convene a working group with Sudbury Public Schools on after-school capacity, after Sheehan warned members against promising any solution before September and called the problem "market driven." Vice Chair Janie Dretler seconded the motion but ultimately voted no when its scope did not expand beyond the schools; Charles Russo, Daniel Carty and Chair Jennifer Roberts also voted no. The board separately voted 5-0 to add $111,350 in ARPA funds to a $125,000 town meeting appropriation for DPW office renovations after Combined Facilities Director Sandra Duran reported a single bid of $197,933.67, and voted 5-0 against holding a fall town meeting. Sheehan reported $302,000 in ARPA funds remain fully unallocated against a Dec. 31, 2024 commitment deadline.
