Select Board rejects Gossels reappointment to ZBA in 3-2 vote

SUDBURY — July 16, 2024 — Sudbury Select Board denies Gossels ZBA reappointment, approves DPW national accreditation. The board voted 2-3 on July 16 against reappointing longtime Zoning Board of Appeals member Jonathan G. Gossels to a new five-year term, with member Charles Russo citing the ZBA's "history of poor decision making" and opposition to a planning streamlining article at spring town meeting. Chair John D. Reardon was reappointed 3-2; associates Jeffrey R. Rose and Bill Ray were reappointed unanimously. The board separately approved a 5-0 allocation of $25,000 in ARPA funds to the Sudbury 250 Committee, with $327,000 in unallocated ARPA remaining. The Department of Public Works was awarded American Public Works Association accreditation — 98 percent compliance across 367 management practices, joining Brookline and Lexington as the only accredited agencies in Massachusetts. The board also unanimously granted an all-alcohol license to Zayi Tapas and Bar at 621 Boston Post Road.
