Sudbury Select Board elects Dretler chair, Gargeya vice-chair in 4-1 vote

SUDBURY — May 19, 2026 — Sudbury Select Board elects Dretler chair, returns $738,908 in stalled capital. The board voted 4-1 to elect Janie W. Dretler chair and unanimously elevated Radha R. Gargeya to vice-chair, with Daniel E. Carty casting the lone vote against Dretler. Members then closed out $738,908.34 in completed or abandoned capital projects, including a $200,000 fire department storage building appropriation Town Manager Andrew Sheehan said "did not go through facilities" under the former chief and a roughly $125,000 DPW salt shed cover whose manufacturer had since gone out of business. Assistant Town Manager and Finance Director Victor Garofalo reported investment income running about $1.3 million over budget, a snow and ice deficit near $900,000, and likely reserve fund transfers for vocational education. The board also voted 5-0 to support a non-binding resolution backing an audit of the state Legislature, the lone remaining article for Wednesday's Special Town Meeting at Lincoln-Sudbury.
