Sudbury Select Board approves transfer station fee hikes and pizza license transfer

SUDBURY — May 16, 2023 — Sudbury Select Board reorganizes, advances firearms bylaw draft, and raises transfer station fees. Janie Dretler was elected chair unanimously and Lisa Kouchakdjian vice chair on a 4-1 vote, with member Daniel Carty opposing Kouchakdjian over a Feb. 8 exchange he called "beyond offensive." Town Manager Andrew Sheehan presented a first-draft firearms zoning bylaw built from Watertown and Acton's adopted versions, with member redlines due June 15 or 16 for return at the second June meeting; the May 2 annual town meeting had rejected a citizen-petition ban. Members unanimously approved DPW Director Dan Nason's fee increases — the full transfer station sticker rises from $170 to $180, mattress disposal from $16 to $50 to absorb the new state mattress ban, and tire disposal from $2 to $7 — the first increases since fiscal 2018. The board also approved a common victualler license for Town Square Pizza, formerly CJ's, at 29 Hudson Road, and accepted a $130,000 Friends of Sudbury Senior Citizens donation for an outdoor patio and gas fireplace at the new Fairbank Community Center.
