Sudbury Select Board approves permanent DEI commission mission statement

SUDBURY — September 27, 2022 — Sudbury Select Board unanimously adopts ongoing DEI commission charter and confirms $100,000 sustainability earmark. The board voted 5-0 Tuesday to approve a revised mission statement converting the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Commission from a temporary to an ongoing body with up to 13 voting members, after member Jen Roberts and DEI member Janine Taylor led a redrafting effort. Town Manager Marianne confirmed a $100,000 state earmark tracked down with help from Rep. Carmine Gentile is now in the governor's budget and must be spent by June 30 — closing most of the gap on funding the town's new sustainability coordinator, whose posting closes Oct. 19. Facilities Director Sandra Duran said her first task with the new hire will be baseline data collection: "We have to find out where we are. Then we have to come up with goals that are measurable and attainable." In quarterly project updates, the board reviewed the $4,524,500 Fire Station 2 construction contract awarded with a Sept. 15 notice to proceed, a three-week delay at the Fairbank Community Center after crews hit construction debris, and a $154,496.78 Eversource litigation balance.
