Sudbury Historic Districts Commission signs Army Corps rail trail agreement

SUDBURY — September 1, 2022 — Sudbury Historic Districts Commission signs Army Corps rail trail MOA over resident objections. The commission voted 5-0 on Sept. 1 to join the federal memorandum of agreement as a concurring party, citing its recently approved certificate of appropriateness that realigned the Mass Central Rail Trail around the railroad section toolhouse and preserved two 40-foot lengths of rail. Member Christopher Hagger said concurring parties receive annual summary reports but no enforcement rights. Residents Diana Warren and Nick Pernice urged the panel not to sign, with Pernice warning "the risks far outweigh the rewards," while Kevin LaHaye called the toolhouse outcome "a huge win for Sudbury." Chair Fred Taylor, Vice Chair Taryn Trexler, and members Anuraj Shah, Susanna Finn and Hagger all voted aye ahead of the Sept. 12 signing deadline. The panel separately closed out 361 Boston Post Road with detailed conditions on cedar clapboards, 5.5-inch corner boards and fiberglass Doric columns, 3-0 with two abstentions.
