SUDBURY — September 6, 2022 — Goodnow trustees open Library of Things to all Minuteman cardholders. The Goodnow Library Trustees voted unanimously Sept. 6 to drop a Sudbury-residents-only clause from the Library of Things policy and to authorize suspending privileges for patrons who repeatedly return items late. Library Director Esme Raphael said the Board of Library Commissioners had fielded a complaint from a non-resident turned away from the collection, which includes a steam cleaner, a weed wrench, a Nintendo Switch and an Oculus headset. Trustee Katina Fontes framed the change as an equity move, saying Sudbury is "a very affluent community" that should lead rather than follow within Minuteman. Trustees deferred a vote on a draft five-year strategic plan, calling it strong but "overwhelming," and separately approved closing the library on Friday, Nov. 4, for staff development day.
