Sudbury HDC continues Dutton Road window case, seeks wood alternative

SUDBURY — March 6, 2025 — Sudbury HDC continues a Dutton Road window case and advances Peter Iovanella to full member. The commission voted 3-0 on March 6 to continue case 25-07 at 181 Dutton Road, where owner Gary Christelis and Renewal by Andersen's Nico Spadorcia proposed three Fibrex composite casements on a 1990s addition to a former Wayside Inn Boys School dormitory. Chair Anuraj Shah said the full-frame installation "is never going to look like a wood window," and members Christopher Hagger and Iovanella pushed for wood despite Christelis citing Pella prices as "astronomically and prohibitively expensive." The same meeting recommended Iovanella, who lives on Dutton Road, to the Select Board as a full member after associate candidate Shervin Hawley failed to appear — "a red flag," Shah said. The commission also voted unanimously to tell BSC Group consultant Adam Duchesneau that the Route 20 corridor study's objectives omit historic resources despite three local districts crossing the road.
