Sudbury CPC recommends $450,000 housing authority article over Carty objection

SUDBURY — January 15, 2025 — Sudbury CPC advances $450,000 housing authority article 7-1 as Carty pushes alternative site. The Community Preservation Committee on Jan. 15 recommended the Sudbury Housing Authority duplex predevelopment grant to Town Meeting over the lone no vote of member Dan Carty, who argued the authority had not analyzed adding two duplexes on a deed-restriction-expired parcel at Fairbank Circle. "Community preservation money is not a slush fund for pet projects," Carty said. Member Jan Costa, who chaired the segment, said the authority had won the project as one of three statewide state-grant awards and that rehabilitating older units would cost roughly $500,000 each. The committee also approved $119,500 for the Hosmer House collection, $386,000 for the Hosmer House roof, and an amended $640,000 envelope-and-HVAC article that replaced a $75,000 grounds line with a $100,000 HVAC placeholder. A $43,000 Regional Housing Services Office assessment, a $690,000 Sudbury Housing Trust allocation and a $500,000 Fairbank Community Center and Haskell Field landscape master plan also advanced.
