Community Preservation Committee · Meeting of October 7, 2026
Sudbury's Community Preservation Committee elected a new chair and began reviewing 13 grant requests for its fiscal 2028 funding cycle. Members voted unanimously to make Sam Markuse chair, succeeding Sherrill Cline after nine years; Cline was elected vice chair in the same meeting. Member Daniel Carty's proposal to ask state legislators to let Community Preservation Act funds pay for walkways connecting recreational areas drew pushback, with member Andrew Bettinelli favoring a home rule petition instead; the committee opted to send the Select Board feedback rather than endorse the idea.
Applications reviewed included a Davis Field rebuild estimated between $1.9 million and $2.9 million, a $900,000 Housing Trust allocation, and a $530,000 Haynes playground and parking request Bettinelli called "not an allowable use." Public hearings were set for Nov. 12, Dec. 2 and Dec. 9.
