Sudbury CPC opens public hearing on update to Community Preservation Plan

SUDBURY — April 16, 2025 — Sudbury CPC takes a wish list for the next five years of Community Preservation Act spending. Chair Sherrill Cline and Director of Planning Adam Burney hosted an April 16 planning forum that drew Facilities Director Sandy Duran pitching a wood-shingle Hosmer House roof and a second multi-sport court at Haskell Field; Historical Commission member Chris Hagger pitching restoration of Henry Ford's Carding Mill and 65 catalogued Mass Central Rail Trail artifacts; and Housing Trust Chair Carmen Gentile describing new deed-restricted ownership units, including a possible Habitat for Humanity partnership. Burney reported about $57 million in CPA receipts over 22 years, split roughly 75 percent recreation and open space, 16 percent housing and 9 percent historic. Select Board member Charlie Russo said a Town Hall renovation pegged at $7.6 million several years ago would now run "probably 15 million dollars." Former Select Board member Larry Simon defended the 3 percent surcharge against a pending citizen petition to reduce it, calling the proposal "putting the town in reverse."
