Sudbury CPC hears $1.6 million in Hosmer and Fairbank requests at second public hearing

SUDBURY — December 4, 2024 — Sudbury CPC takes second hearing on Hosmer House and Fairbank requests; estimates shift. The Community Preservation Committee took testimony Dec. 4 on three fiscal 2026 articles: a $500,000 Fairbank Community Center and Haskell Field landscape master plan, a Hosmer House envelope-and-grounds restoration whose estimate jumped from $500,000 to roughly $615,000 after prevailing wage was added, and a $30,000 archivist position for the Hosmer family collection. Facilities Director Sandra Duran said the roof, heard later, is her top Hosmer priority because "you can save any structure if you have a good roof on it." Member Dan Carty pressed on proceeding before the consultant's report is final: "We're paying money for a report on the structure and we're not waiting for it." Historical Commission Chair Chris Hager said the report's findings are stable but its phasing section is being rewritten by month's end. The Hosmer House is currently closed by the Historical Commission over elevated mold spores. No votes were taken.
