Sudbury Council on Aging cuts subsidized rides from 20 to 10 per month

SUDBURY — January 11, 2023 — Sudbury Council on Aging slashes subsidized rides as transportation program nears insolvency. Effective Feb. 1, riders will be capped at six taxi and four Uber one-way trips a month, down from 20, after the panel learned the program is burning $11,900 monthly and will exhaust funds by month's end without a delayed $83,000 Mass Development grant. "If we do nothing, then there's no program," said member Bob Lieberman, calling the cut "a backstop." State Rep. Carmine Gentile pledged to push the agency directly. The council unanimously approved two warrant articles — a $135,000 MWRTA revolving-fund cap and a $65,000 COA program cap — and is asking the Select Board for a $150,000 FY24 warrant article to stabilize the transportation program. Marilyn Tremor was elected vice chair.
