Council on Aging votes to tie tax work-off credit to minimum wage

SUDBURY — December 12, 2022 — Sudbury Council on Aging asks Select Board to peg senior tax work-off credit to state minimum wage. The unanimous Dec. 12 vote, moved by Don Sherman and seconded by Paul Marotta, would automatically lift the credit from $14.25 to $15 an hour on Jan. 1 and track future minimum-wage increases without an annual vote. "Being below the minimum wage could be a significant handicap to the whole program," Sherman said. Liaison Bob Lieberman told the council the Select Board is weighing whether to "operationalize" the senior transportation program under town staff, with Director Debra Galloway set to meet the interim town manager and planning director this week. Commission on Disability liaison Marilyn Tromer reported that fall awareness events reached roughly 900 residents. Chair Jeff Levine, in his final allowable year, opened succession planning for June.
