Sudbury committee approves new safety sign, wrestles with rail trail ramp compliance
Rail Trails Advisory Committee · Meeting of February 4, 2026
Sudbury Rail Trails panel approves safety sign, hears sharp criticism of Broad Acres ramp plan. The Rail Trails Advisory Committee unanimously approved a green "Be Safe, Be Seen, Activate Lights at Crossings" lawn sign at its February 4 meeting, while resident and community access monitor Kay Bell told members the proposed redesign of the inaccessible Broad Acres Farm ramp was "egregiously out of compliance" with the ADA. Rail Trails Coordinator Marcia said MassDOT has classified the original ramp as an "error and omission" and directed Fuss and O'Neill to redesign it at state expense with a single angled path at 5 percent slope or less.
The committee also reported a $50,000 state earmark from Senator Jamie Eldridge for trail maintenance equipment in Sudbury and Acton, and roughly $200,000 in pending reimbursements from a $250,000 Mass Trails grant expiring December 2026.
