Permanent Building Committee approves $39,066 to expedite Fairbank switchgear

SUDBURY — September 22, 2022 — Sudbury's Permanent Building Committee approved a $39,066.28 change order to expedite electrical switchgear for the Fairbank Community Center. Compass project manager Jeff told members the supplier's standard lead time had stretched to 82 weeks, threatening a 2024 opening, but shifting fabrication to another plant would cut delivery to roughly 40 weeks. The cost includes a $37,000 pass-through from MB Electric, Colantonio's 5 percent markup and a 0.56 percent bond rate. Co-Chairs Craig E. Blake and Elaine L. Jones and member Jennifer K. Pincus voted yes; Michael Sevier abstained, warning the decision could "leave our pocketbook wide open" for future supply-chain claims. Members called it "the least worst option." Compass also reported agreement with Colantonio on tracking disputed soil-management volumes, clearing earthwork to resume.
