PBC authorizes $100,000 to address unforeseen Fairbank soil problems

SUDBURY — September 8, 2022 — Sudbury PBC authorizes $100,000 to clear trash-laden soil halting Fairbank foundations. The Permanent Building Committee voted unanimously Thursday to issue a construction change directive to Colantonio Inc. after crews hit roughly 800 cubic yards of buried construction debris — brick, rebar, Tyvek and concrete pavers from the 1980s-era pool build — in a 15-to-20-foot-deep pocket beside the existing pool. Compass's Jeff D'Amico said Colantonio stopped foundation work last Wednesday and filed a claim letter; the directive lets work resume while unit prices and disputed base-contract quantities are negotiated. The committee also approved $74,945.20 in added Weston & Sampson services, including $34,905.20 for full-day geotech coverage during 20 foundation visits and a $40,040 geo-environmental allowance, and awarded NV5 the MEP commissioning contract at $53,240, about $11,700 under budget. Member Craig Blake was named assistant project manager and "soil liaison" after Nancy Rubenstein resigned the PM role.
