LS School Committee weighs response after second swastika found at high school

SUDBURY — March 11, 2025 — Lincoln-Sudbury School Committee confronts second swastika at LSRHS in two years. Superintendent/Principal Andrew Stephens told the committee a student reported a swastika carved into a boys' locker-room locker on March 6 that investigators believe had been there 18 months or more; the symbol was removed, Sudbury police were notified, and two rabbis and the Jewish Student Union were briefed before a March 7 community letter. Chair Ravi Simon, who is Jewish, said "each time I have to write a statement like this, my heart sinks." Three residents — Matt Lazowski, Mary Warzynski (also reading for Tracy Garozzo) and Sasha Papalilo — called the district's letter "tepid" and asked for a school-wide assembly with a Holocaust or Oct. 7 survivor. The committee also voted 6-0 to approve three April overnight trips and 6-0 to accept a $3,200 state Credit for Life grant for the March 14 Reality of Life Fair.
