Lincoln-Sudbury committee weighs first athletic fee hike in over a decade

SUDBURY — March 25, 2025 — Lincoln-Sudbury weighs first athletic fee hike in over a decade as revolving fund slides into red. Athletic Director Daniel Lee told the regional school committee March 25 that LS athletics could end FY28 about $51,000 in deficit without action, citing roughly $50,000 in new coaching stipends under the new CBA and ice rental rates that jumped from $335 to $385 per hour at New England Sports Center. Lee proposed lifting the base user fee from $365 to $385, ice hockey from $500 to $650, and swim and dive from $365 to $425, calling the booster groups providers of "nice to haves, not the have to haves." Chair Ravi Simon held the vote for a later meeting. The committee voted 5-0-1 to adopt six revised policies, with Member Kevin Matthews abstaining, and unanimously approved an overnight DECA trip to Florida for four students. Director of Finance Kirsteen Patterson also recommended drawing up to $275,000 from excess and deficiency and transferring $200,000 to the LS Stabilization Fund.
