Lincoln-Sudbury school committee drafts year's goals, approves FY25 capital request

SUDBURY -- September 26, 2023, Lincoln-Sudbury school committee drafts year's goals and approves FY25 capital request. Members live-edited four goal areas, core functions, communication, equity and student mental health, and committed to monthly listening sessions and bimonthly newsletters rather than "office hours," citing Open Meeting Law constraints on informal deliberation. Member Lucy Orzinski pushed to replace "treatment" with "experiences, opportunities and academic outcomes" and questioned whether identifying data was the committee's role; members agreed they would "review and provide feedback" on metrics instead. Parker Elmore of Odyssey Advisors reported total OPEB liability of $32.7 million, net OPEB liability near $29 million and the plan about 11 percent funded, "top quartile" statewide, he said, "because nobody has any money." The district contributes about $380,000 a year to the trust. The committee unanimously approved the FY25 capital budget items for submission to Lincoln and Sudbury.
