Lincoln-Sudbury committee elects Simon chair, Bitter vice chair, approves equity plan

SUDBURY — May 14, 2024 — Lincoln-Sudbury committee reorganizes under Simon and adopts state equity plan. Members elected Ravi Simon chair and Catherine Bitter vice chair, with Kevin Matthews abstaining on both votes and outgoing chair Kara Endlich Doran rolling off finance for policy. Superintendent Andrew Stephens won unanimous approval of the district's three-year Student Opportunity Act plan, which targets ninth-grade outcomes for low-income, Hispanic, Latino, and Black students and funds Open Architects data work, an expanded advisory program, and a new METCO clinical social worker. A handbook revision on discipline for students with disabilities, required by DESE's Tiered Focus Monitoring review, also passed unanimously. Science Department Coordinator Nicole DiGenis previewed an enrollment "bubble" hitting 11th and 12th grades next year and reported that a 50-50 AP Chemistry pilot mixing first- and second-year chemistry students will continue, with first-year students performing comparably while spending "more than double" the outside-class time.
