L-S School Committee approves Quebec and Italy student tours, names new voucher signer

SUDBURY -- June 29, 2023, Lincoln-Sudbury School Committee approves Quebec and Italy student tours on Bella Wong's penultimate day. The committee unanimously cleared a February 2024 French-language cultural tour to Quebec, run jointly with Burlington High School and led by L-S teacher Laura Fargher, and unanimously authorized teacher Paul Schultz to continue developing an April 2025 architecture, urbanism and sustainability tour to Italy with a Sudbury-based vendor at "probably 4,000 plus" per student. Member Kevin Matthews, designated by unanimous vote to sign district vouchers starting in July, pressed Superintendent Bella Wong for scholarship-uptake data; Wong said at least 16 of 20 students signed up for next April's civil rights tour are receiving "some sort of financial support." A proposed Mandarin tour to Taiwan in April 2025 was deferred pending vendor selection. The committee will meet tentatively Aug. 10 to approve the superintendent evaluation rubric due Aug. 1.
