Lincoln-Sudbury committee adopts combined superintendent-principal evaluation rubric in 4-0 vote

SUDBURY — July 18, 2023 — Lincoln-Sudbury adopts merged DESE rubric for its unique superintendent-principal role. The regional school committee voted 4-0 Tuesday to approve an evaluation tool that fuses the state's superintendent rubric with the principal/administrator rubric, tailored to a district where one person holds both jobs. Subcommittee lead Mary Matthews said former Chair Heather Cope created a "crossbridge" between the two DESE documents; the "exemplary" performance column was dropped for consistency with the teacher rubric. New Superintendent-Principal Andrew Stevens, who started July 5, said evidence for the rubric's 21 focus indicators would mix data, meeting agendas, observation and narrative — "some of these are a little amorphous." The committee set an Aug. 10 joint meeting with two Sudbury Select Board members to fill Cope's seat, and confirmed Susan Shields and Tim Jason as new associate principals.
