Historical Commission approves standardized house marker, advances cemetery stone repairs

SUDBURY — March 18, 2025 — Sudbury Historical Commission welcomes new member, targets 30 cemetery stones for restoration. Chair Christopher Hagger seated Stephen Greenstein as a voting member at the March 18 meeting, then led a 6-0 vote (with member Jan Costa abstaining) approving a standardized house marker for 71 Concord Road's Israel Haynes Brown House — listing only the name, the 1725 date and "Sudbury Historical Commission," dropping the existing "Station of Underground Railroad" wording. Alternate Marjorie Katz reported that roughly $15,000 remains from a prior CPC article for cemetery work, with conservator Tamara Conde quoting $500 to $750 per stone; at least 30 Revolutionary War Cemetery stones need repair. The commission also unanimously approved a letter to the town's Route 20 corridor consultant, former Town Planner Adam Duchesneau, noting that the Boston Post Road is "one of the most historic roads in the United States," member William Andreas said. The Hosmer House open house was set for April 27.
