Historical Commission approves placeholder CPC bid for Hosmer House collection work

SUDBURY — August 2, 2024 — Sudbury Historical Commission files placeholder CPC application for Hosmer House collection preservation. Members voted 5-0 on Aug. 2 to support submitting the application by the Community Preservation Committee's new Sept. 6 deadline, reserving the right to edit or withdraw it before the Oct. 16 CPC review. Chair Christopher Hagger said specifics will be added in September after consultant Erin Richardson's collections study is finalized. The draft, written by former member Diana Warren, was edited line-by-line; the commission stripped "Phase 1" labels throughout, corrected "collection management plan" to "collection management policy plan," and reframed a contested sunlight-control bullet as a generic "collection protection preservation task." Member Jan Costa, who also sits on CPC, said the deadline shift was driven by "very lean" applications last cycle. Member William S Andreas reported the building's basement should remain off-limits through September following an Aug. 12 mold test, though the rest of Hosmer House tested clean.
