Historical Commission approves moving two granite markers at Concord-Union intersection

SUDBURY — June 17, 2025 — Sudbury Historical Commission approves relocating two granite markers at Concord-Union Avenue, commits up to $1,800. Chair Christopher Hagger and Member Christopher Durall said one stone, removed during DPW construction, will be reinstalled at the southwest corner of Concord and Union Avenue; a second, found near Old Lancaster Road, will be moved across that street to clear a planned crosswalk beacon. The commission first authorized up to $1,000, then raised the figure to $1,800 as a fiscal 2026 carry-forward after a separate $249.90 reimbursement to Vice-Chair Michael Wallace reduced the residual. Members also unanimously approved Eagle Scout Theo Bound's conceptual design to rebuild the Haynes Garrison site sign in cedar with a corrugated steel roof and UV-stabilized glazing, stripping hornet's-nest removal from his scope. Member Jan Costa reported the planned Revolutionary War Cemetery kiosk must resolve an ADA font issue — simulated-headstone labels are 6.5-point against a 12-point standard — before its June 25 work session. Hagger and Wallace were re-elected chair and vice-chair.
