Historical Commission allows 225 Raymond Road demolition, continues Woodside hearing

SUDBURY — February 20, 2024 — Sudbury Historical Commission splits 5-2 on Raymond Road demolition and continues Woodside Road hearing. Members voted that the rear corner of 225 Raymond Road slated for partial demolition is not historically significant under the bylaw's "portion thereof" language, with Dana Warren and Diana Sebra dissenting; Warren called the approach "a very slippery slope" contrary to the bylaw's legal underpinnings. The commission unanimously continued a public hearing on 106 Woodside Road to March 19, asking owner Lenny Holt for architectural drawings and a plan for the original stained-glass front door that Chair Christopher Hagger called "the knockout of your whole property." Members also unanimously found the Joseph Chandler-designed villa at 25 Plimpton Road historically significant. Combined Facilities Director Sandra Duran reported $18,000 in design fees from SoCo Tech drawn from a 2019 $50,000 appropriation will move the long-delayed Hosmer House cedar-shake roof into bidding this summer.
