Historic Districts Commission splits 3-1 on Concord Road garage doors and driveway

SUDBURY — July 11, 2024 — Sudbury Historic Districts Commission splits twice on Concord Road and sends cottage demolition to the building inspector. The commission on July 11 approved black metal carriage-style garage doors and asphalt driveway paving at 248 Concord Road in separate 3-1 votes, with member Griff Noble dissenting on the doors for material precedent and member Jordan dissenting on the driveway, saying asphalt on a historic home is "particularly personally pretty troublesome" because "you can't just swap out the pavement." Chair Anuraj Shah and Vice Chair Taryn Trexler recused as abutters; member Christopher Hagger ran the hearing. The third item — demolishing a small cottage at 246 Concord Road documented in a 2021 inventory as a possible Garfield-estate shop building from around 1921 — was continued unanimously, with owner Danny Murphy agreeing to seek a town building inspector assessment. The commission also denied a 29 Hudson Road sign application after applicant Johnny Tang did not return to staff, approved 5-0 aluminum gutters at 258 Dutton Road (member Peter Iovanella recused, application presented by his mother Janice Iovanella of Stowe, Vermont), and approved Boston Blend round fieldstone with granite caps for the Wayside Inn bridge, with Hagger abstaining.
