Historic Districts Commission approves Peakham Road barn, Lafayette Drive solar array

SUDBURY — September 5, 2024 — Sudbury Historic Districts Commission approves barn and solar, sends rail trail fence back for redesign. The five-member commission voted unanimously Sept. 5 to approve Bob Green's 50-by-100-foot Brentwood-style barn at 84 Peakham Road with square-topped wood cupola louvers, black window sashes and a return visit for shingle color; a 24-panel rear-roof solar array at Matthew Gallus's 8 Lafayette Drive; exterior repairs and wood-composite Garaga garage doors at Brooks Barhight's 19 Colburn Circle; and revised window-scaled signage at 365 Boston Post Road. Douglas and Joyce Arthur's proposed five-foot black aluminum fence at 229 Peakham Road, tied to the Eversource rail trail project, was continued to Oct. 3 after Member Christopher Hagger cited "66 inventoried historical railroad artifacts" along the 4.6-mile corridor and Vice Chair Taryn Trexler urged a cedar design stepped down toward the street. Vice Chair Trexler told the barn applicant that "black, dark charcoal is not the color" for mimicking a historic barn.
