Historic Districts Commission clears eight cases, continues Hosmer House reroofing

SUDBURY — October 3, 2024 — Sudbury Historic Districts Commission halts Hosmer House fascia change, clears eight other cases. Chair Anuraj Shah led a 3-0 vote (with associate Jordan participating) to continue the town's cedar reroofing of the Hosmer House to Nov. 7 after Combined Facilities Director Sandra Duran and designer Andrew Barr of SoCoTech proposed five inches of above-deck insulation that would have grown the fascia by roughly six inches. Shah said the change would "completely destroy" historic trim proportions on a building that functions as a town museum and consumed more than $7,000 in FY2022 heating costs under Town Meeting Article 55's sustainability mandate. The commission instead urged insulating the attic floor. Members approved a 28-by-64-inch wooden sign for The Blessing Barn at 348 Boston Post Road with raised border, matte finish and Benjamin Moore China White background; a split-rail fence at 229 Peakham Road for Douglas and Joyce Arthur; solar panels at 11 Lafayette Drive; a Wayside Inn west-porch reconstruction; pool screening at 239 Concord Road; GAF Timberline charcoal shingles at 84 Peakham Road; and closed out a 2022 window certificate at Shah's own home, 22 King Philip Road, with Shah recused.
