Historic Districts Commission approves Eversource transmission line with four conditions

SUDBURY — August 4, 2022 — Sudbury Historic Districts Commission clears six cases including Eversource corridor and Wayside Inn bridge direction. Public Works Director Dan Nason and consultant Scott Medeiros of Woodard & Curran won the commission's direction for a fieldstone parapet with a granite-veneered arch and no cap on the Wayside Inn Road bridge, with member Christopher Hagger dissenting on what he called a "fake arch" with no historic precedent — the existing concrete deck dates only to 2003. The commission then approved Eversource project manager Mike Hager's revised alignment for an underground transmission line through the George Pitts Tavern Historic District 4-0, conditioned on a DCR letter, updated plans, other-board approvals, and loam-and-seed cover if the rail trail isn't built within 12 months. Two 40-foot sections of rail in front of the historic section tool house will be retained or reset. Diana Warren of 32 Old Framingham Road urged denial, telling the board "you are not the bike trail commission."
