Goodnow Library Trustees outline screening process for new director

SUDBURY — April 1, 2025 — Goodnow Library Trustees sketch director-search process and defer member assignments to May. At their April 1 meeting, trustees outlined a multi-stage hire developed in consultation with Town Manager Andrew Sheehan: a screening committee of two or three trustees, joined by Massachusetts Library System Executive Director Sarah Sogigian and the Sudbury Public Schools superintendent, will review resumes against a yet-to-be-drafted rubric, interview about five or six candidates, and forward two finalists to Sheehan, who will conduct final interviews with one trustee. A larger committee was rejected on Open Meeting Law grounds; Sheehan argued the board would "get fewer applicants if all the applicants thought they had to be at an open meeting." Assistant Director Karen Tobin reported a recent staff training on CPR with Officer Nathan Carroll and on service animals with NEADS, prompted in part by a staff member bitten in the face by a patron's dog. Trustees welcomed trustee-elect Jill Caseria; member Megan Kelley was absent. The next meeting is May 13.
