CPC recommends Markuse for open seat, previews $3 million in FY26 requests

SUDBURY — September 4, 2024 — Sudbury CPC recommends Sam Markuse for open at-large seat, opens FY26 review with $3 million-plus in asks. The Community Preservation Committee voted unanimously Sept. 4 to recommend Markuse, managing director of corporate governance at Nasdaq and a two-month Sudbury resident, to fill the seat vacated by Lynn Remington, pending Select Board confirmation. "This committee, quite literally, is in my backyard," Markuse told the panel, citing protected land behind his Puritan Lane home. Chair Sherrill Cline walked members through new Director of Finance Victor Garofalo's FY26 projection of $3.23 million in revenue and $1,793,557 available for new projects after statutory reserves. Coordinator Ryan Poteat reported 10 applications received, including $600,000 for the Fairbank Community Center, $886,000 across two Hosmer House projects, and $1.18 million in combined Sudbury Housing Trust requests. Select Board liaison Dan Carty pressed for a consolidated open-project ledger covering Housing Trust and school transfers: "I'm just looking for a one-stop shop."
