Council on Aging director announces February retirement after 14 years

SUDBURY — December 10, 2024 — Sudbury COA director announces February retirement as $62,500 kitchen earmark and $135,000 transportation bridge land in same meeting. Council on Aging Director Debra told the board Dec. 10 she will retire at the end of February after 14 years leading the senior center and nearly 20 with the town; the director position was to be posted the following day. State Rep. and council member Carmine Gentile secured a $62,500 state earmark to fund the warming cabinet, double convection oven and steamer needed to make the community center kitchen operational for emergency shelter use. The Select Board separately allocated $135,000 in unspent ARPA funds to the Go Sudbury rideshare program, which runs about $12,000 per month and would otherwise have exhausted funding by May 2025. Two volunteer counselors served roughly 150 residents during Medicare open enrollment. "It's not easy for me to do, believe me. I love this place," the director said.
