Conservation Commission continues Moore Road garage hearing amid split on riverfront options

SUDBURY — October 21, 2024 — Sudbury Conservation Commission splits on Moore Road garage, defers decision to November. Engineer Steve Poole of Lakeview Engineering, representing applicant Dwight Henderson, presented three options for a garage to store a truck and boat trailer at 87 Moore Road, including one with 182 square feet of permanent disturbance inside the 200-foot riverfront area and a cleaner alternative with only 176 square feet of temporary disturbance but a tight turning radius. Chair David Henkels, Bruce Porter and Jeremy Cook leaned toward the in-buffer option as "least worst while still meeting the applicant's goal," in member Mark Sevier's words, while Vice-Chair Kenneth Holtz, Kathleen Rogers and Luke Faust pushed back. The commission continued the hearing to Nov. 18, requiring mitigation packages for both options plus relocation of an unpermitted fence in the riverfront area. The board also imposed a Sept. 15, 2025 mitigation-planting deadline on Chris Davey's tree removal at 451 Peacom Road and accepted a 5.819-acre conservation restriction at 27 Sawmill Road originating from a 2004 demolition.
