Conservation Commission clears three tree-removal RDAs, extends four DPW orders

SUDBURY — February 26, 2024 — Sudbury Conservation Commission approves three tree-removal requests and extends four DPW culvert orders. The Feb. 26 commission, chaired by David Henkels, issued negative determinations for 213 Horse Pond Road, 255 Peakham Road and 33 Union Avenue, and granted one-year extensions on DPW orders for Washington Drive, Wolbach Road, Old Sudbury Road and 275 Old Lancaster Road. Homeowner Thomas Norton cited $70,000 in damage from a recent tree fall in seeking to remove seven trees near his house; Vice-Chair Kenneth Holtz pushed back on a blanket safety standard, saying "if we took that approach, we wouldn't have many trees in Sudbury," while agreeing the specific trees warranted removal. Conservation Coordinator Lori Capone said the wetlands bylaw caps extensions at one year despite DPW's preference for three. The commission also voted to sponsor two adult-education courses by Nila Zosa.
