Conservation Commission approves removal of 12 hazard trees at 177 Marlboro Road

SUDBURY — September 8, 2025 — Sudbury Conservation Commission clears 12-tree removal at 177 Marlboro Road after legal opinion. The commission voted unanimously Monday to issue an order of conditions for applicant Charles Urso after town counsel and the state Division of Conservation Services concluded the existing conservation restriction allows tree removal where trees pose a safety risk, cut material stays on site, and mitigation is provided. Members struck a condition barring coal-tar driveway sealants — Vice-Chair Kenneth Holtz called it "objectionable" given Urso's 50-50 shared driveway easement — and rewrote a dumping prohibition to match 1996 language. They kept a ban on new in-ground irrigation despite Urso's disclosure of a pre-existing system, with member Mark Sevier telling him it would be "a smarter move to just disable the system." The commission also issued a negative determination for Eagle Scout Marissa Cooley's roughly $1,200, 70-foot bog-bridge project at Frost Farm.
