Zoning Board denies Dogtopia kennel permit at Sudbury Crossing

SUDBURY — September 12, 2022 — Sudbury ZBA denies Dogtopia kennel permit on 3-2 vote, one shy of supermajority. The Zoning Board of Appeals rejected Red Barn Dog Ops LLC's special permit for a dog daycare at 435 Boston Post Road, with Chairman John Reardon and member Jonathan Gossels voting no on Section 6220 grounds tied to a new Goddard School moving into the same Sudbury Crossing plaza. Members Frank Riepe and Jennifer Pincus, who toured the applicant's Dedham facility, voted yes along with Nancy Rubenstein, calling the operation clean and well-soundproofed. Attorney Josh Fox argued "the card stores and the gift stores are gone" and that service tenants now fill retail plazas. The board also approved a 4,500-square-foot teardown-rebuild at 15 Longfellow Road, extended the 631 Boston Post Road medical office permit to a Dec. 31, 2023 construction start, and voted to recommend a townwide ban on firearms sales, assembly and manufacturing to the Planning Board.
