Sudbury ZBA recommends Riordan, Gossels for new five-year terms

SUDBURY — June 17, 2024 — Sudbury Zoning Board of Appeals rushes reappointment recommendation to Select Board after chair's paperwork is dropped. Meeting virtually on short notice June 17, the board voted 5-0 to recommend that the Select Board reappoint Chair John Riordan and member Jonathan Gossels to new five-year terms and reappoint Jeff Rose to a one-year Earth Removal Board seat doubling as a ZBA associate slot. Riordan disclosed he had submitted his application to the Town Manager on June 6 but that it did not reach the Select Board's June 11 agenda; that board paused on the ZBA slate after a member questioned whether the appeals board had formally recommended candidates. Clerk Frank Riepe, Jennifer Pincus, Nancy Rubenstein and Rose joined Riordan in the unanimous vote. Member Jennifer Pincus pressed whether the board could advertise for additional associates outside the Earth Removal Board, noting the ZBA cannot easily reschedule hearings without re-advertising and re-notifying abutters: "We let a lot of people down if we don't have a quorum." The Select Board takes up the recommendation June 25.
