Sudbury ZBA continues swim club and Chase Bank cases to April after short quorum

SUDBURY — March 4, 2024 — Sudbury ZBA continues swim club expansion and Chase Bank applications to April 1. Down one member with no associate to substitute, the four-person panel lacked the supermajority cushion to act on either special permit or variance. Sudbury Swim and Tennis Club, represented by membership director Laurie Arthur and engineer Adrian Charest, is seeking to raise family memberships from 210 to 300 against a five-year, roughly 400-family waiting list and 2023 average daily attendance of about 6.5 percent of members. Abutter Lisa Burge of 65 Hemlock Road called swim-meet traffic and parking "atrocious" and asked for a speed bump. For Chase Bank at Sudbury Plaza, attorney Josh Fox and Wilder Companies' Mark Hebert sought a 19-foot setback variance, a parking waiver from 470 to 409 spaces, and a drive-up ATM special permit; Member Frank Riepe pushed back on "scrunching" the building toward Route 20. Both votes to continue were 4-0.
