Sudbury ZBA approves three permits including contested Longfellow Road rebuild

SUDBURY — August 5, 2024 — Sudbury ZBA clears Longfellow Road rebuild after design overhaul, neighbor objection. The Zoning Board of Appeals voted 5-0 Aug. 5 to approve the demolition and replacement of 57 Longfellow Road, accepting revisions that lowered the main house to 27 feet, dropped the bedroom count to four, reshaped the floor plan into an L, and broke up the white-clad mass with a darker, shingled garage. Architect Paul Mahoney of Mahoney Architects in Concord catalogued 11 changes since prior hearings; conditions imposed include straight-gable garage roofs, deletion of a triangular dormer, additional Longfellow Road screening, and recessed downlights replacing wall sconces. Neighbor Hank Sered of 58 Longfellow asked for postponement and called the project "too much for the neighborhood," comparing it to another Octavian-built home he said is "lit up like a prison yard." Chair John Riordan rejected the due-process objection. The board also granted Amanda Minor a setback variance for a 26-by-30-foot addition at 47 Lakewood Road and Michael Doboz a kennel permit to keep four dogs at 162 Fairbank Road, both 5-0.
