Sudbury Select Board to draft letter opposing 200-unit Maynard 40B project

SUDBURY — November 6, 2024 — Sudbury Select Board signals opposition to 200-unit Maynard 40B over the town line. The board on Nov. 6 directed staff to bring a formal letter Nov. 19 opposing AvalonBay Communities' Kanso Maynard project at 182 Parker St., ahead of a Nov. 28 deadline set by the Massachusetts Housing Partnership. Town Manager Andy Sheehan said Maynard lacks water capacity and that Sudbury fire responded to the nearby Digital Way development 67 times in 2023. "This project seems like a really bad idea," Member Charlie Russo said, calling it unviable "without a water subsidy and a public safety subsidy from Sudbury." Vice Chair Dan Carty separately warned that GoSudbury and the MWRTA Catch Connect microtransit pilot — together carrying more than 10,000 rides to date — will run out of money around April, with continuing Catch Connect estimated at roughly $150,000 a year. The board also approved a 51 percent ownership transfer of Sudbury Farms to an employee stock ownership plan and declined a ZBA request to replace Russo as its liaison.
