SUDBURY — February 7, 2023 — Sudbury Select Board moves school override and fire truck questions to March 27 annual ballot. The 5-0 vote, taken after counsel from Town Clerk Beth Klein and KP Law's Lauren Goldberg, breaks from recent practice of post-Town-Meeting elections; a follow-up vote on the ballot language is set for Thursday to meet the town's 46-day posting rule. The School Committee requested the earlier date to give staff job clarity; without the override, the district has outlined cuts including seven and a half positions and class sizes up to 28. Fire Chief John Whelan, who learned of the timing Tuesday, warned the pumper exclusion will need "a great marketing campaign." The board also wrestled with a failed pressure test on the Atkinson pool dive well requiring $275,500 in repairs, and voted 5-0 to redirect $11,542 in unused ARPA funds to a new inflatable rescue boat after the existing one delaminated.
