Sudbury Select Board calls Oct. 23 special town meeting with 14 articles

SUDBURY — November 17, 2023 — Sudbury Select Board sets Oct. 23 special town meeting with 14 articles topped by $900K Fairbank ask. The board voted 5-0 to call the meeting at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School and previewed articles including roughly $500,000 retroactive firefighters contract funding, $100,000 to design Atkinson Pool repairs, schematic design for the Nixon School roof, $800,000 from the Malone Stabilization Fund for Route 117 signalization, and an opioid-settlement stabilization fund expected to receive about $400,000 over 15-20 years. Shared Facilities Director Sandra Duran disclosed the Fairbank AV procurement effectively failed — two of three invited vendors declined to bid and the sole bidder came in far over budget with "labor double what we expected" — and AV will not be ready for the Thanksgiving opening. Town Manager Andy Sheehan said a "financial condition of the town" presentation is planned for early November: "We need to come up with a plan to stabilize the town's finances." Lori DeLollio was unanimously appointed town accountant.
