Sudbury Select Board approves $100,000 ARPA grant for Haynes School roof study

SUDBURY — December 17, 2024 — Sudbury Select Board sends $100,000 to Sudbury Public Schools for Haynes roof feasibility study. The board voted 5-0 Tuesday to authorize Town Manager Andrew Sheehan to execute the ARPA grant agreement, a precondition for participation in the Massachusetts School Building Authority's Accelerated Repair Program, which would reimburse roughly 30 percent of the eventual roof cost. A second 5-0 vote authorizes Sheehan to apply any leftover ARPA balances to lawfully executed contracts — "couch cushion money," he said, from variances on already-approved purchases. The board separately appointed Kay Bell to the Sudbury Housing Trust on a 4-1 vote, with Vice-Chair Daniel Carty dissenting over a "concentration of voices" on multiple town committees. Sheehan also previewed three bylaw amendments for the May warrant: clarifying Finance Committee membership, replacing the Capital Planning Bylaw's $100,000 and $200,000 thresholds with a single $500,000 figure, and moving Town Meeting's start time from 7:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
