Sudbury PBC tells town Fairbank Community Center will miss November opening

SUDBURY — September 21, 2023 — Sudbury Permanent Building Committee warned the Fairbank Community Center will miss its November opening as Eversource power and contractor delays compound. OPM Chris Eberly of Vertex told the committee the project is 19 working days into waiting for permanent power, pushing move-in to the week of Nov. 27 at the earliest. Members unanimously authorized Co-Chair Craig Blake to negotiate two Colantonio Inc. change orders — up to $50,000 for a rear stormwater outfall fix and up to $55,000 for missing egress sidewalks and tactile warning strips. The committee declined roughly $38,000 in front-entrance drywells, with architect Tom Scarlata of BH+A saying proper regrading "and the problem goes away." Members signaled support for the town manager's $900,000 supplemental contingency article at fall Town Meeting. By contrast, OPM Neil Joyce reported Fire Station No. 2 is 73 percent complete at $4.265 million of a $5.8 million budget.
